I'm so excited to finally share my favorite recipe for vegan German Schnitzel with you. They are easy to make and taste amazing. Traditionally they are served with SpƤtzle (German pasta) and a green salad for a delicious and satisfying meal. German comfort food at its best! Hope you give it a try!
The Recipe
Vegan Schnitzel (makes 5-6 Schnitzel)
Ingredients
7.5 ounces / 210 g tofu firm
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/4 cup / 140 g vital wheat gluten
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup / 180 ml water
bread crumbs as needed
vegetable oil for cooking
Instructions
1. In a food processor blend tofu and water until smooth. Transfer to a kitchen machine. Add salt, onion powder, vital wheat gluten, all-purpose flour and vegetable oil. Knead for about 10-15 minutes, until smooth.
2. Form a ball and cover with aluminum foil. Bring a big pot with water to boil and cook the covered dough on medium heat for about 30 minutes. Cover pot with a lid.
3. Allow to cool completely. Then, using a sharp knife, cut horizontally and make 5-6 thin slices.
4. Heat a large pan with a good amount of vegetable oil. Lightly season the Schnitzel with salt and cover them with bread crumbs. Fry them on both sides until golden brown. Serve immediately. ENJOY!
