Best Vegan Pretzel Dinner Rolls

Well, as a German I love pretzels. And if there is one thing my family loves most, it's bread! Honestly, at dinner time it's the first thing picked.

Today I am sharing my favorite recipe for buttery pretzel dinner rolls with you. Seriously, if you need an easy and bullet proof recipe, this is the one! You can even prepare as much as you can in advance and freeze some of the rolls for another time. If you like you can also add some olives or herbs to make the rolls even more special.

These vegan pretzel rolls are EASY to make and require only a few ingredients. The difference to regular dinner rolls is, that you have to bath them in boiling water with baking soda before you bake them. Trust me! It's worth the effort! And your house is going to smell SO GOOD!

The Recipe

Best vegan pretzel dinner rolls (makes about 8 medium sized rolls)

Ingredients

1 LB / 454 g of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 package / 7 g dry yeast
3 tablespoons / 40 g soft vegan butter, room temperature
1 cup / 240 ml warm water

4 tablespoons baking soda

coarse sea salt or sesame to sprinkle

Instructions

1. Combine flour, salt and yeast. Add the soft vegan butter and the warm water. Knead the dough by hand until it's smooth.

2. Place the dough in a bowl and allow it to rise for 60 minutes.

3. Bring 70 ounces / 2 liters of water to boil and add 4 tablespoons of baking soda.

4. Preheat oven to 410 degrees F / 220 C°. Line baking tray with parchment paper.

4. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased work surface. Divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll them lengthwise and make a knot.

5. Boil two rolls at a time for about 1/2 minute. Then transfer to the baking tray. Sprinkle them with coarse sea salt or sesame (optional).

6. Bake for 20 minutes.

Recipe notes: If you want to make more in advance, just boil them and freeze them afterwards. Then when you need them, take them out of the freezer and bake them!
